Awesome things to do in East Atlanta that Don’t Involve Beer

When you say EAV to most folks in Atlanta they think of the lively bar and music scene that goes on in the Village every evening. However, East Atlanta is a very eclectic, family friendly community with a rich history. Here are just a few of the upcoming events taking place in East Atlanta Village that don’t involve beer.

EAV Farmer’s Market: From 4-8 pm Thursdays April-December I love how our community comes out every week to support local farmers, shop, eat fun treats and commune with their neighbors…before going out for beers.

Lite Speed BMW Criterium: Sat Aug 16 This high speed bike race runs right through the Village. The best seats in the house can be found on the numerous patios in EAV, all of which are serving beer.

EAV RunFest: September 27. This 5k race benefiting Burgess- Peterson Academy is the official kick off to the East Atlanta Strut. Run EAV also hosts group runs every Sunday at 8 am and on Tuesdays at 7 pm. I believe these folks like a cold recovery beer after a good hard run too!

East Atlanta Strut: Saturday, September 27. East Atlanta’s Annual Music and Art Fest which features an early morning 5K, live music all day, an artists’ market, kids village, parade and beers galore. The beers are optional of course.

Santa Fest: Series of events taking place in mid-December and includes a tree decorating contest, Red, White and Green Parade, Photos with Santa, ornament decorating workshops and the lighting of the EAV tree. Family fun for all! Santa may or may not be drinking beer throughout this week of festivities.

B*ATL  is a week long celebration every July commemorating the Battle of Atlanta which took place in July 1864. There is a Gala; van, walking and bike tours; tours of Oakland and Sylvester Cemeteries and Grant Mansion, book signing, story telling and live battle re-enactments. I suspect some of these soldiers may even have beer in their canteens.

Ok, so maybe there is a beer theme running through this post after all….but, the truth is that East Atlanta is a lot more than it’s bar scene. It’s a great place to live and spend your time. Come check it out!

  1. so…can you come up with one that doesn’t have to do with bicycling or running, either?
