My 5 Favorite things about Cabbagetown

Cabbagetown is a small funky neighborhood located on the east side of town. It was built as a mill town around the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill which opened in 1881. You will find lots of shotgun houses and small cottages and new construction infill in the neighborhood. This is a close-knit community with a rich history stemming from the Appalachian Mountain folk who worked in the Cotton Mill. My favorite things about Cabbagetown: Chomp and Stomp – Cabbagetown’s annual bluegrass festival and chili cookoff takes place early in November every year. The festival kicks off with a 5k race called the Romp and Stomp. The neighbors really turn out to show their support lining the streets with coffee (and often beers) in hand to cheer on the runners and welcome them to the neighborhood. Some folks even show up with their guitars. This is one of my favorite 5ks of the year and my absolute favorite t-shirt. Krog Street Tunnel – The Krog Street Tunnel connects Cabbagetown to neighboring Inman Park. It is also canvas to the best street art (or graffiti if you aren’t a fan) in the city. Check it out here: http://thedailykrog.tumblr.com/ Carrol Street – Carrol Street Cafe, Village Pizza, Milltown Arms Tavern and Little’s Food Store. I can’t think of a negative thing to say about any of these places. Go there now. Eat good food. Meet cool people. Cabbagetown Park – Smack dab in the middle of the neighborhood is this lovely 3.5 acre greenspace with an awesome playground, plenty of seating, cool sculptures and a gorgeous oak tree…wooden swing and all. Kerry’s Intown Favorites for First-time Home Buyers

If you are ready to put down some roots and begin the search for your first home? Kerry Lucasse with the Nest Atlanta group would be glad to help you. Many new buyers want to be in a convenient – and fun — Atlanta neighborhood, but sometimes the prices are a little hard to swallow. The following areas are my ‘intown favorites’, offering you the ability to find a home that is move-in ready and will allow you to quickly build equity in your investment: The East Lake Terrace neighborhood surrounds the East Lake Country Club (near the intersection of 2nd Ave and Glenwood Ave) and has experienced tremendous growth in the past two years. There are new million dollar homes facing the golf course and $195,000 brick bungalows just across the street! Also, you are minutes to 1-20, the Oakhurst Village, Kirkwood and East Atlanta. Best Buy for $200,000 to $250,000…. East Atlanta More and more first-time home buyers are charmed by the “new and improved” East Atlanta Village, as well as the affordable housing. For less than $250,000, you can usually fine a renovated 2 – 3 bedroom home. New construction is also booming in this area, starting at $299,000 for a 3 bdrm / 2 bath home. Intown Atlanta Favorites from Kerry Lucasse with Nest: KIRKWOOD

Located just down the street from the new Edgewood Retail District, Kirkwood has has appreciated faster than most Atlanta neighborhoods. It’s easy to see why: it’s just minutes from Downtown Atlanta and the interstate, has a wide selection of beautifully restored bungalows and newer homes, and residents know their neighbors and can walk down sidewalks under mature trees to nearby parks and businesses. The numbers tell the story. The median price of an existing home in zip code 30317 increased by 69% from 2000 to 2004. With the recent development of the Kirkwood Station and many new businesses, home prices have increased even further and the average home price (as of March, 2007) is now more than $280,000. While these figures offer a good sense of the thriving Kirkwood real estate market, they understate the total impact, as they exclude the sale of condominiums, lots, and, most notably, homes sold by owner.   If you’d like more information, please contact me and I would be happy to show you around the neighborhood!
